First, both have the same processor speed (2.0 GHz), but Intel is preferable than AMD (Intel has more support than AMD). Second is the memory, Inspiron has twice the RAM (4GB vs. 2GB). Higher memory better and faster speed and performance. Third, Inspiron has better video card (both Radeon). Fourth, Inspiron has larger hard drive, which is usually better.

Woah dude alot of info.
You need to look at:
the processor (AMD, intel, etc)
RAM
HDD RAM
Battery Cell
Screen resolution
I suggest going for a computer that has an Intel Celeron processor, not the AMD.. Also 64-bit windows vista may not be compatible with programs that you may have atm.
Sorry i cant tell you the best laptop, its kinda late and im not reading all that.
I suggest taking a quick look at the HP Pavilion dv5, its the perfect laptop mang.
Also, head over to notebookreview.com its got reviews and forums where you can ask experts what you’ve asked here and get far better results, especially considering the amount of money your about to spend on a machine you might rely on pretty heavily.
good luck and happy buying

well done to iamlonder actually she said was right most of the tech specs are fairly common and what i would ask is what or have you thought about your budget and are you sure that you are getting value for money?
please note there is not mention of what purpose the systems are going to be used for.
and you have said nothing about any other bits and pieces such as:
a carry case.
spare battery.
external keyboard.
external mouse.
USB hub or hub-let.
flash sticks or external hot swap hard drive
card reader.
if you hope to use high or very demanding applications it comes down to dedicated not shared graphics and a fast processor and screen size.
if you have only basic needs you can get computers and desk top systems that have a good spec of CPU and 1GB or 2GB of memory.
